Quiet Time.

First of all, let me say that this morning I heard on the radio on my way to work that my city is the 25th worst city to be in if a zombie apocalypse were to happen. Apparently, we don't have enough hardware stores to get weapons from and with the traffic we have we would pretty much be stuck and would be attacked by the zombies in no time. Jack and I already swore we will be purchasing more tools to prepare for an event like this. We have a plan of attack and everything. I'm sort of kidding but not really. I'll be contacting Rick & Carol (since she's a complete badass) to come help us out. ;)

Okay now that this is out of the way (whew!) I'll start by saying that it's been very quiet over here with us. Well, not entirely so but we just have been living life staying afloat enjoying the moment.

Have you ever sat down and realized how loud our lives can get? Like literally loud as in noise coming from everywhere at any given time. You're driving and the noise of the cars is insane, then you're at a red light and the car behind you is blasting their music because they think everybody and their mother needs to listen to that same song and suddenly you realize that your own radio is kind of loud too. There's a screaming baby (or babies) in their car seats waiting to get out of them and you think, can I just have some quiet time?

I think sometimes we don't realize it! It happens at home too. I've found myself playing with Elliot while the TV is on and I'm occasionally glancing at Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune. Has that happened to you? Probably, right? I literally realized this just a few days ago as I was driving home with Elliot and he was asleep. I had turned the radio off because I was on the phone with Jack (hands free people) and when I hung up I forgot to turn the radio on. By the time I noticed, I thought how nice it felt to be in the quiet. Granted I was driving, but there wasn't a lot of traffic, it was early in the day and it felt so nice to hear the quietness. Oxymoron I know but truly it was relaxing. I left it off the rest of the way and when we got home I didn't turn anything on. Elliot wanted to play and we played. Usually we have some music going on or the TV on and this time I left everything off. I loved it. I gave Elliot my full attention and of course he loved it too. Shutting everything off and being in the moment is so good for them and us as well.

Sometimes we just have to turn the world off for a little bit, literally, and enjoy some quiet time. I plan on doing that a lot more. Lately, Jack and I have been so busy that our quiet time at night has been cut short, sometimes we don't even get that time because we are out as soon as our heads hit the pillow. Our lives are so full of noise and a lot is always happening, we hear it every single place we go everyday.

The same happened to my writing. I needed to get away for a bit, recoup and get back to it. So here I am!

We are excited for the weekend because we have some Halloween festivities going on and I know I cannot wait to dress Elliot up in his costume. He will get to wear it three times this year and I'm loving the thought of that.

For now, how about an outtake for a throwback Thursday last year at around this time! Elliot clearly quite enjoyed it. ;)

Happy Thursday! :) Also, enjoy some quiet time!

Weekend Recap.

Big plans were set for this weekend but they were ruined by the weather! Well, more like us thinking the weather was going to ruin them so decided that was enough to not put them into action? Whatever it was, our weekend was still cool. Pun intended.

When I got home on Friday, I saw this little pumpkin Elliot made for Jack and I at daycare with his little footprint and loved it. I can't wait to buy some cool magnets to put this and all the other stuff daycare does for him/us he will be doing on the fridge. He's so crafty like mama! ;)

On Friday night my sister went over to our house to have a couple of drinks. Since she's not a big fan of the beer I drink (say what?) we decided to make these delicious drinks with champagne and popsicles. I saw these on a morning show one day and the looked soo good and also on one of my favorite blogger's IG and had been wanting to make them forever. These are really cool for a brunch or birthday party. Seeing that I didn't have anything else in my fridge other than my beer, champagne and OJ (which is no fun on a Friday night) I decided to make these for my sister and I. If you're looking for a light refreshing drink, this is it. Try it with your favorite popsicle flavor and you'll end up finishing a champagne bottle in no time. Not the case with us. Or maybe. We also had a dancing party in which only Jack and I participated and my sister thought we were being completely ridiculous. She's no fun.

After she left, Jack and I started decorating the door for Halloween. We are nowhere nearly done but we are getting there! Here's a preview. We made the bats by drawing them onto felt squares and cutting them out which was a pain in the ass but we took turns in drawing and cutting to have a nice variety and to rest our hands from all the cutting.

The letters I got at Hobby Lobby, they are wooden, unpainted letters and I just bought a little tube of paint, some small brushes and painted them black. I still want to add to the wreath but haven't found the right accessories. I did see some pretty cool fabric for a bow so I might just do that. We are also planning on adding a few more bats to the door and other windows in the same diagonal pattern. I also can't wait to buy a thousand few pumpkins for the front door.

I plan on adding this felt garland I bought on West Elm to our mantle and I will leave it there for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. I think it's neutral enough to work for all three. Thanks to Jessica Garvin for the heads up on it!

Saturday we had a whole day planned consisting of an early breakfast, corn maze and pumpkin patch fun. So we started with the early breakfast and noticed it was getting windy and cold (remember the cold front I mentioned?). Yeah it got pretty windy so we decided to skip all that fun. About an hour later after our decision, the weather got so beautiful it would've been the perfect day to pick pumpkins and take cool pictures of Button! Boo to us. It was already too late because we ended up at the AT&T store where Jack finally joined the iPhone family and he's so happy. Like a kid in a candy store ;) We still plan on hitting the pumpkin patch next weekend!

Sunday was a laundry/cleaning and preparing for Monday kind of day. We also played a lot with this little one. I wish everyday could be like this!

Then we were done. Button was done too. We were in bed sleeping by nine! I think that might have been the best part of the entire weekend. Going to bed early is a very rare occurrence and we needed it.

Are you already decorating for Halloween? Hope everyone had a great weekend!

October Favorites.

If you're a working mama, have you ever stopped to realize how fast time goes by and how fast your kids are growing? As I was making dinner, I thought about the million and a half things I still needed to do while trying to spend as much time as I could with Elliot. It makes me feel so guilty. Like I should just drop everything I'm doing and be with him. Sucks!

This is on my Fall inspired love list.

I'm loving that it's feeling like Fall this week since we got a cold front and the high on Saturday and Sunday is like 72 degrees, can't get any better than that. Am I allowed to wear boots those two days? Because then we go back to the hot weather for a while. Ugh. I love cold weather.

PSL's. I just had my first one of the season and all I can say is I might go broke and make Starbucks even richer than it is.

Candy Corn cozie from Jumping and Jelly Bean on Etsy

All the ideas for Halloween costumes. I mean, who doesn't want to see a baby in a costume? Elliot will be a cute little bat. I already bought him everything and he looks the cutest with his little bat hat. Also the fact that we get to celebrate Halloween with a kid. It's always been with our nieces and nephews and it was about damn time we got to do it with our own baby. We will be eating all the candy.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Did you know that 80% of women who have/had it did not have it in their family? I always, always thought that it was hereditary for the most part and that yes, sometimes it comes out of the blue. Turns out, I was wrong! Scary. Sorry to sound like a PSA but it scares the shit out of me. So in its honor, I did my nails and will keep them like this for the entire month.

Decorating. Seriously, I love it. As I've mentioned before, having my own house where I can decorate however the hell I want is like eating Doritos with Tabasco everyday and not gaining an ounce of weight. I'll be posting once I'm done with the house!

Speaking of weight, Insanity. Yes, Insanity. I hate it but I love it. I hate starting it, but I'm so glad I did it when it's over. Jack and I have been doing it for a couple of weeks now and man am I feeling it. It's a good kind of feeling. I love how the workouts change and you get to do something different. I think that was one of the biggest problems with my lack of motivation. How can anyone get motivated to run the same shitty amount of time everyday on a treadmill? Or even outside? Oh, you mean those who are runners. Fine. I don't like it okay? Okay :) Glad that's settled. Anyway, I'm already seeing results and can't wait to shed all this weight I have left. Thanks Button. I'm also glad I'm doing it now because I can't wait to wear cute sweaters with leggings and boots, and I'll be ready for the summer to wear some cute clothes too!

Chocolate. For some reason, I'm really liking the taste of the dark, dark, darkest chocolate. It's a little indulgence that Jack and I have once in a while. Plus it's good for you. These Ghirardelli squares are amazing. I can't wait to be able to have the hot version in a cup.

This gorgeous pin tuck comforter from West Elm that I already told Jack I want. How perfect is this for the Winter?! I picture many movie nights and snuggles in bed with Button and Jack. I love it in this exact color too.

The one dollar section at Target. Every.single.time we go to Target I have to stop by this section to see what goodies they have. I usually walk out with something and Jack looks at me like really? What? Most of the stuff is a dollar! I found these really cool beverage holders and had to grab all selections. Perfect to drink any pumpkin flavored beer for Halloween.

And last but not least, the fact that Columbus Day is coming up and I get a whole Monday off to spend with Elliot! So looking forward to that.

My little Button last night. Such a good little sleeper!

Yay for Thursday!

Weekend Recap.

Man, these posts are all I seem to write about lately. Life has kept me so busy!

Friday was such a nice day. I got a call from my mom at work telling me she would be cooking for us and to stop by to pick up dinner at her house. Hell yeah! We ate her delicious food and didn't have to go through the tedious and routine "Where do we go? I don't know. What do you want? Whatever you want?" Ugh! Jack and I do this every.single.time. Maybe because we aren't picky at all and can eat anything (I guess this explains my weight gain). My mom's food was sooo good. My best friend then came over to see Elliot (that's what happens when you have kids, you become secondary to your friends and family ha!) and we had a beer and talked, while she played with Elliot. Of course.

Saturday morning we had to be ready early to go get our inspection stickers because they were about to expire. I work on the military post and you can't get in unless you are current on registration and inspection. Hmm, maybe I should have let it expire so I could stay home :) So to the West side of town we headed and while Jack's car was also getting an oil change, we headed out for lunch. Jack wanted Middle Eastern food and so we went to the restaurant that my dad used to own. It was the weirdest, saddest, I-don't-know-how-to-explain-it feeling it the whole world. Kind of depressing actually. I had not set foot in it since my dad had sold it and didn't think I would ever, but since I had no idea who the owners were (if I had known them I wouldn't have been there) I gave it a shot. The food was okay although a lot changed. I can honestly say that my dad was the best cook the restaurant ever had.

The place itself, decorations, ambiance, etc, changed so much. Nothing looked the same (except for the music playing and I told Jack I should have taken those CD's since they were mine). Hearing the music brought familiarity back to me, and I just couldn't shake off the fact that I had painted that wall, I had stained those tables, I had hung that painting (or helped at least), I stood right there waiting for the food to come out, I cleaned those floors. It was also remodeled (which they did a horrible job at). You get the feeling. We worked so hard for a dream that quickly vanished when my dad gave up on everything. You can read what I'm talking about here.

Anyway, I went because Jack was craving it, but I think that will be the last time we go there. The food was definitely not the same anymore. After that, Jack saw that I was sad and kept asking me if I was okay. He said he would take me shopping after to cheer me up. It worked, ha, nothing a little retail therapy can't cure. I was happy that we took care of his craving too! We stopped by Bath and Body Works. Their candles? A-mazing! They have the best scents of all time for Fall! I am not a big fan of sweet or food/dessert smelling candles, I'm more of a fresh, fruity scents and I found this pumpkin apple one that is the perfect combination! Not too sweet but you still get that feeling of the holidays. They are also on sale right now!

I also did some more Fall decorating and bought some goodies for some DYI'ing I have in mind for Halloween! Jack helped me with some of it and we will start the actual decorating next weekend! I can't wait! Seriously, Pinterest has the best ideas and by tweaking them and adding your own ideas and touches you can make really awesome things. Check out some of my inspiration ideas here.

Sunday was the best day out of the week! We relaxed, did grocery shopping, front yard cleaning (well Jack did), cooking, cleaning and laundry but for some reason the day lasted for ages! It was the best. Spending all that time with Elliot and Jack just makes me the happiest and I already can't wait for next weekend.

In other news, Button has two teeth! Jack and I get a kick out of him because we see them every time he smiles or laughs. So cute! He's growing way too fast for us.

Hope you all had a great weekend! Happy Monday!

Seven Months.

Sorry guys I've been crazy busy these past few days and I'm posting Button's update a little late. It's just beyond crazy to me how smart and amazing this little creature is. He's learning so much at such a fast rate. I know as mamas we say that about our kids all the time and to everyone but seriously, how can we hold back such information about our little ones when they're so awesome!

Excuse the half erased board. This kid could not get his hands off of it.

Weight: About 18lb. Your next appointment is not until nine months.

Clothing size: 6-12 the six month stuff I got you is going out the door pretty soon.

Diaper size: 3 I seriously think we will be getting 4's in no time.

Feeding: Your schedule is pretty much the same as last time but you don't drink as much formula as you used to because you like your solids a lot more. And you drink water now too. I'm not going to let you drink juice until you're older.

Milestones: You are literally days away from crawling. I also love to stand you up on my legs because you push yourself up and down. I love that!

Loves: We recently got you a baby remote control. You crawl (or slither rather) your way to it and you press the buttons changing channels left and right. While all that is cute, we opted for one just for you. It plays songs, numbers and it lights up, you love it. We also bought you a Glow Worm and you are mesmerized by the way it lights up. I give it to you when I lay you down and you lay on your side touching its lit face. Your absolute most favorite toy is a monkey your auntie Yams bought you when you were born. We hang it from your car seat and you ALWAYS hold on to it when you're in it. Even if you're asleep. If we forget it (cause grandma takes it out so you can play with it) you look for it and you give me a look as if you want to ask me "where the hell is it mama?" It's the cutest thing.

Dislikes: You're starting to give us a hard time with diaper changes. You don't complain but you are so squirmy and try to get your hands on everything you can find on the bed while we are changing you. I think you just don't like not being able to do what you want during that time. When you're congested, you hate saline and the bulb. You already know when we get close to your nose and you start swinging your hands and turning your body away from us. I don't blame you on this one, it probably sucks. You also have never liked ANY teething toys. This has given us a hard time because although you love your hand, it's not enough to calm the itchiness of your gums.

Adventures: Everyday is an adventure with you! You did hit your head on the high chair because since you want to grab and touch everything, you were looking down on your little safety belt and you were slouching and hit your head. You cried for about 2.5 seconds and went about your business. You also love leaning all the way to the edge of the tray and biting it with your gums. It probably feels good since you're teething.

Mommy and Daddy could not get through the month without: Still your paci but mostly all your toys. You can play with anything and you stay occupied for a good while.

I am also loving the stuff that Old Navy is coming out with and seeing that Fall and Halloween is almost here and reading other blogs it seems like everyone is in the spirit already! So why not join them?

The toys were purchased at Target and the PJ's and onesie from Old Navy.

More on ON. Seriously, I snagged this onesie as soon as I saw it. I love it!

Happy Wednesday!
